Tuesday, May 13: Walk and Talk with the Editors!
​
Join the BJSM Editors for a beautiful sunset hike to the base of Svolværgeita! The hike typically takes about 45 minutes and is relatively steep but with a manageable path. Meet in the lobby of the Thon Hotel Svolvær at 8PM for a short welcome. Sunset is approximately 10PM. Please dress appropriately for the weather!

Rib Safari Trollfjorden (pre-booked only, limited capacity)

Prior to departure warm floating suits, gloves, goggles and safety vests will be provided. In the boats we will have a short safety briefing. The tour lasts for 2 hours, and along the way there will be plenty of stops with information on the rich history of the area. Of course we will meet the Sea Eagles, and we will feed them some fish which guarantees close up photography of the bird. The trip goes to the famous Trollfjord, a narrow beautiful fjord with steep walls. From Trollfjord we will go back a slightly different route passing old fisherman villages, beautiful beaches and most likely more eagles. To bring a camera is a must.

The fishing tour will last for 2 hours on several good fishing spots in the proximity of Svolvær. The boat is a traditional Norwegian "skøyte" named Luna. Good chance for catching cod, haddock and coalfish. A skipper and crew that will assist and give guidance if necessary. Filleting of the fish and of course the possibility to bring the catch home.

Get together for PhD/postdoc fellows (more info will follow)

All PhD/postdoc-fellows are very much welcome to attend a low-key get together on Tuesday with pizza buffet followed by a pub-crawl. Sauna is available upon request. Contact: Monica Holmsve: monicaho@nih.no for questions.

Hike to the Foot of Svolværgeita (no pre-booking needed)
​
Join us for a spectacular and accessible hike to Svolværgeita! This scenic trek is suitable for everyone and takes approximately 70 minutes from the hotel to a height of about 150 meters. We'll hike almost to the top, stopping just before climbing equipment is required. Along the way, you'll take in breathtaking views and experience the beauty of Norwegian nature. Departure time will be announced upon arrival in Svolvær, depending on the weather forecast.

Golf (own booking & transport)
​
Lofoten Links is one of the world’s most breathtaking courses! Surrounded by dramatic mountains and the open sea, this is golf at its most spectacular. Lofoten Links is located just a 40-minute drive from Svolvær, and scheduled to open for the season on May 13. Although the sun will dip below the horizon around 11 pm in early May, you can play around the clock.
